PARIS FASHION WEEK : 2015/16 ROUND UP
Valentino, we salute you ! The designers runway show served as a filming location for the movie “Zoolander”. Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) and his nemesis, Hansel McDonald (Owen Wilson) strutted their stuff down the runway, sporting their infamous zoolander pout. Watch the footage here.
Chanel took us back in time to the Gabrielle brasserie in the Grand Palais. Bow-tied waiters busied themselves clearning glasses and making coffees, while the models took their seats and browsed the ‘menu’. In terms of the clothes, it was a modern take on Chanel’s infamous tweed and skirt suits, along with pink sweater dresses for those chic Parisian weekends. Sacred Karl, you always surprise us.
Gwendoline Christie, best known as Brienne Torth in the series “Game of Thrones” walked for Vivienne Westwood. The actress, who does not quite meet the usual beauty criteria , presented two styles of the collection called “Unisex”.
Givenchy paraded his models with their faces covered in jewels. The mid-warrior mid-bohemian look and slightly gothic atmosphere made quite an impression!
Here are our top french lessons to come out of PFW :
1. Tattered is the new elegance…
Phoebe Philo, the creative director of the house Celine, strikes again with this wonderful AW fashion show. With a sharp and seductive modernity, this collection adds in a twist to the usual elegant codes of style.
Still, don ‘t rush to get a pair of scissors to give your wardrobe that ‘tatty’ makeover. Best left to the professionals !
2. The bubble skirt beckons…
Alexander Wang paid tribute to the first models of Cristóbal Balenciaga, handing fantastic structural skirts that shoot out below the waistline in the spotlight.
3. Piercing is pretty
(Mum/dad, if you ever happen to read this… Told ya !)
Givenchy paraded its models by covering their faces with jewels. Riccardo Tisci puts his stamp on this striking collection with mysterious, unconventional models, that portrayed a mix between Victorian heroines and priestess from distant lands.
