Art Inspo: The Connor Brothers

Franklyn and Brendan Connor were brought up in California, USA. Their childhood however was other than the norm, having been brought up under the controversial Christian group, ‘The Family’, started by David Berg. It takes its roots from the hippie movement in the 60’s, and is based around the notion of sharing love endlessly – but often without acknowledgement of traditions or norms held in the current society. Berg himself believed the idea of  ‘love the sinner, but hate the sin’ [1].  The group sheltered the Connor boys from outside the community confines,... Read More

Red or Dead’s AW14/15 NO.1 TOP TREND

FUR FUR FUR… (Mixed with a little bit of knitwear too of course). Fur is the quick and easy way to glam up any outfit, and it’s all about keeping you warm! This winter, it’s about big and bold colourful statements of fur – particularly oversized coats and jackets – and to raunch it up a little, hairy accessories like fur collars and bags. It’s fun and fluffy, and will always come back round in the ever-revolving wheel of fashion trends. It was on nearly every catwalk, and will be in any... Read More

Red or Dead’s getting hitched…

Well not quite… But we’re talking all things wedding related at RoD HQ, with our marketing exec’s wedding just 3 months away. After much debate over a cuppa and a cheeky hobnob, here’s our top 5 celeb wedding dresses…of all time! At number 5, it has to be the very beautiful Kate Bosworth, for the sheer simplicity and elegance of this dress, designed by Oscar de la Renta! Her simple hair and make-up off set this fit-for-a-princess gown and give it an edge (and when you’re that naturally beautiful, who needs false... Read More

AW14 NO.2 FASHION COUNTDOWN

Embellishment. Lovely, lovely embellishment. The Christmas period is about all that sparkles, so its no surprise really that it was all over the catwalks. Christmas parties and new year’s outfits have loads of inspiration. If you read our number 3 in the countdown, it was heavily based around empowering clothing and strong statements. Although the glitz and glam of diamanté is typically associated with delicacy and daintiness, this season we are talking about BOLD ornamentation.  Large 3D florals sparkled their way over dresses, and extreme embroidery twisted its way over... History Trip – No.3 AW14 trend

Disco fever? Garish prints? Mix and match, Pic n’ Mix? Swinging silhouettes? Exactly. Absolute absurdity. But really, we all love taking a trip back to the 60’s, 70’s and 90’s. Why? Because you could create any type of fashion madness you wanted. In the Autumn/Winter catwalks, there were lots of A-line silhouettes, bright colours, psychedelic patterns, and tailoring; all key in 60’s fashion. However, they are brought to life for a 2014/15 fashionista; short mini dresses are given a twist by using metallic materials; bright statement accessories are thrown in; even more daring... AW14 NO.4 TREND

This trend makes it to number 4 on our trend list. It was seen heavily on the catwalks with fantastic shows from the biggest names such as Burberry and Alexander McQueen… FOLKLORE Shapes are loose and draped, with lots of layering. Earthy colours such as brown, creams, reds and rust are incorporated, as well as heavy monochrome (specifically the McQueen show). Fur, knits and leather are the key materials, as a return to the organic comes through for the winter. Hair and beauty is minimal with this look. It’s a... Read More

LONDON FASHION WEEK

So, in the midst of all the Fashion Weeks for SS15, we thought we’d show you some of our favourite styles and snaps from LFW (our home-ground)! There’s so much inspiration from off the catwalks.  We’ve spotted lots of monochrome, sheer materials, experimentation with textures, funky floral and palm graphics, to name a few… Pairing elegant dresses with a casual top, jacket or pair of shoes was seen a lot, and so the general trends take a much more relaxed style. Playing with the likes of faux fur, foiling, or feathering for example, added a playful element to many... Read More

Meet Red or Dead’s Creative Director, Katie!

Hi everyone! It’s me again Siu the eyewear journalist from MyGlassesAndMe. This month I will be reviewing another Red or Dead frame with “twistable” temples. When I first heard about them I was immediately intrigued because I have seen changeable temples but never twistable ones. Upon receiving the frames my first impression was what a clever idea! You can have two looks with just one pair of glasses and you don’t have to worry about pulling the temples out & changing them (like all the changeable temple glasses). I cannot explain... Read More
